The first question that most students ask me is if there is a way to prepare for the lockdown browser exam in April of 2020. My answer is a resounding yes! In fact, preparation for any type of exam is important because it allows you to become better at studying for the test in the long run. The test will then begin.
Prior to the first test, make sure students have completed a practice test that makes use of Respondus Lockdown Browser to ensure that they have installed it properly. Make sure any pending software updates are also installed so that these do not interrupt your actual test. You can purchase a desktop computer set up similar to what a student would have at home to use for the exam in the event you cannot come to your office. In order to practice for the exam, you can take the software and recreate your lab environment using a local network. This way, if anything goes wrong, you can still go through the steps necessary to pass.
As previously mentioned, I like to give students a practice test at least two weeks prior to the exam. At the end of each week, I will review the topics I cover in detail, highlight my mistakes, and then prepare the next week’s lesson. For students who take the lockdown browser exam, I suggest going over the material twice. You may think this sounds like a lot, but students only concentrate on one topic for approximately ten minutes. Therefore, if you spend ten minutes analyzing and responding to each topic, you are giving yourself ample time to learn everything you need to know. It is also helpful to pay close attention to how other students answer the questions and correct their answers so that you can get an idea of where you stand.
While reviewing the topics in your textbook or on the website, make sure you are also paying attention to the way the questions are asked. When the examiner asks questions, he or she may pose many questions at once. If you are confused by the number of questions asked, then you will lose valuable time discussing the material and answering the corresponding test questions. In addition to the way the questions are asked, be careful to check for other spelling errors. This is a common error made by test-takers.
The final step is to review the material once you have finished it. During this review, you should focus on your notes and try to determine what areas you might have learned something new. If you used a combination of text and images, write these down as well. This will help you remember the information more easily when you do need it. It will also be easier to access in the future.
Finally, use the blackout mode. If you have purchased a blackout mode download, it will keep all pop up windows, links, and ads from appearing on your screen. This will give you extra time to get ready before taking the exam. However, if you do not have this option, you should still use the blackout mode every time you take the test. Doing so will ensure that you do not miss anything important.
Once you complete the entire test, you will find that it is much easier than it was at the beginning. Your knowledge of the material is more defined and you will feel more confident with each question. This confidence will carry over to your entire examination. As long as you study and practice, you will have no trouble answering the many questions posed during this portion of the exams. Even if you did not answer every question on the last section, you should be able to at least answer most of the questions that are presented to you. This practice also has the added benefit of giving you ideas for other topics that may come up on the test.
